Columbia Chemical expands pre-treatment chemistry line with purchase of CS Finishing, Inc.

Brunswick, Ohio – Columbia Chemical Corp. has recently purchased CS Finishing, Inc. with the goal of achieving greater expansion into the pre-treatment chemical market segment of the surface finishing industry. The move will also allow the veteran company to provide additional service to their customer base.

CS Finishing, Inc. was founded 17 years ago by Clem Stratman, when he purchased two long-standing companies, Metal Surface Technologies (MST) and Cafline, which each boast a 30-year history. CS Finishing’s product line consisted mainly of cleaners and pretreatment chemistry along with various phosphates and oils, acid salts, bright dips, and spray cleaners, which will now be added to Columbia Chemical’s robust product line.

This transition, effective immediately, creates an opportunity to enhance service to customers of CS Finishing, Inc. With a customer base that provides overlap between the companies, this move offers a built-in consistency in customer service for many customers and added ease in ordering. Customers will also benefit from combined shipping and direct access to Columbia Chemical’s Finisher’s Advantage program, which provides the highest level of technical support, custom lab analysis, and comprehensive account service.

Columbia Chemical Corp., which specializes in surface finishing chemistry, both functional and decorative, with a high percentage of business in the automotive industry, purchased CS Finishing, Inc. to deepen its stake in the surface finishing market and “round out its current pre-treatment additives portfolio,” states President Brett Larick.

“We want to leverage our expertise in surface finishing and approach it from the unique position of understanding and meeting our customer’s needs from pre-treatment and cleaning of the surface all the way through to the finished product” he added. “This new line of products will provide an expansion of our existing pre-treatment line and will be a continued growth driver for us.”
