January 06, 2012, Brunswick, OH - Columbia Chemical announces that the company is now 100% employee owned.

NEW COLUMBIA CHEMICAL ZINC PHOSPHATE AND

ELECTROLESS NICKEL PROCESSES

PROVE COST-EFFECTIVE IN FIELD TRIALS

COLPHOS ZN 35

MARQUEE BMP

December 14, 2011, Brunswick, OH - Columbia Chemical announces a line of phosphate coating products that is breaking bath life and salt spray testing records.

COLPHOS ZN 35 liquid-immersion zinc phosphate produces fine-grain crystalline heavyweight coatings on steel surfaces, while generating minimal sludge. The process provides excellent absorbing properties for supplemental coatings such as oil or waxes.  Not only is COLPHOS ZN 35 suitable for coating weights of 1000 – 5000 mg/ft2, it is also ideal for pre-paint treatment and in forming operations.  COLPHOS ZN 35 enables platers to meet the requirements of ASTM F1137, MIL-DTL-16232G TYPE Z and A-A59267.

COLPHOS OIL 20, a water emulsify-able, alkaline rust preventative for ferrous surfaces, results in over 200 hours of salt spray protection when applied and cured over a heavy zinc phosphate, such as COLPHOS ZN 35.

MARQUEE BMP mid-phosphorus electroless nickel plating process has one of the fastest deposition rates throughout the life of the bath.  The extremely deep, brilliant, decorative finish also boasts uniform plating thickness and hardness. Excellent stability results in a solution life up to 10+ turnovers.  A simple two-component process with a 1:1 replenishment rate, MARQUEE BMP meets ASTM-B-733 and AMS-2404 C specifications.

Two of the Columbia Chemical phosphate coating products were recently field tested at American Metal Coatings in Cleveland, Ohio, which processes over 600 million parts annually. COLPHOS ZN 35 Phosphate for Heavy Coatings obtained three times the life of a competitive process.  Salt spray testing on our COLPHOS OIL 20 provided a higher level of salt spray protection at a lower cost.

COLUMBIA CHEMICAL INTRODUCES

TWO NEW EASY-TO-USE

TRIVALENT CONVERSION COATINGS

WITH UNIQUE FINISHES

SpectraMATE® 21
COLDIP® SATIN ZINC 900

September 01, 2011 Brunswick, OH – Columbia Chemical introduces two new trivalent conversion coatings for electroplated zinc, SpectraMATE® 21 and COLDIP® SATIN ZINC 900.

SpectraMATE 21 is a high-performance thick-film trivalent conversion coating that consistently exceeds 150+ hours of neutral salt spray to white corrosion products without top coats.  It produces an iridescent  multicolor finish which renders more blues, reds and yellows with less hues of green, which is unique among high-corrosion resistant trivalent chromate processes.  SpectraMATE 21 offers an operating pH range that is wider and more user-friendly than conventional trivalent chromates.  It is ideal for both rack and barrel installations utilizing cyanide, alkaline cyanide-free or acid-chloride zinc plating electrolytes.

COLDIP SATIN ZINC 900 provides an economical alternative with its unique uniform satin zinc finish, similar in appearance to satin nickel and satin silver.  It consistently provides 96 to 168 hours of neutral salt spray to white corrosion products without topcoats.

Both SpectraMATE 21 and COLDIP SATIN ZINC 900 are easy-to-use “one part systems” that do not require multiple starter, adjuster, and replenisher type additives.

COLUMBIA CHEMICAL CELEBRATES 35 YEARS AS A LEADER IN THE ZINC PLATING INDUSTRY

July 26, 2010, BRUNSWICK, OH – Columbia Chemical is a world-wide leader in the zinc and zinc alloy plating industry.  In July 2010, the company is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Columbia Chemical was founded in 1975 by partners William Rosenberg Sr. and Herb Geduld.  From humble beginnings, a small shop was initially established in a defunct Cleveland textile mill to mix zinc brighteners for local platers.  Rather than offering chemistries for all different types of plating , it was here the partners developed the strategy to specialize in manufacturing the best zinc brighteners in the world. Focusing on R&D and manufacturing and relying entirely on outside companies to market and distribute their products, they not only survived, but thrived.  Within five years, Rosenberg and Geduld moved their operations to a better facility and expanding beyond private labeling by developing the Columbia Chemical brand of zinc brighteners.  In 1999, they gracefully passed the torch onto the next generation.

Through the 80’s and 90’s, both the plating industry and the general business environment became ever more complex.  Pollution and safety laws tightened, the need for quality systems increased, and the plating industry clamored for higher quality and environmentally friendly products.  Columbia Chemical reacted by increasing the staff, adopting ISO 9000 standards, expanding beyond just brighteners for zinc plating, and expanded its reach beyond the U.S. market.

Today, Columbia Chemical provides all the chemicals and know-how that zinc platers need to meet tough new industrial and automotive specifications.  These include zinc alloy plating processes, cleaners, acid inhibitors, rinse aids, and hexavalent chrome-free  passivates.  The company operates out of their own 44,000 square foot facility and has distribution partners in over 30 countries worldwide.

Columbia Chemical Corporation is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of zinc plating additives.  For more information, contact Columbia Chemical Corporation, 1000 Western Drive, Brunswick, OH  44212, 330/225-3200, www.columbiachemical.com

and Lustrous Metal Coatings

Pictured (from left): Tom Alderson, Sales Manager Americas, Columbia Chemical; Cassio Jose Pinto, Director, Metal Coat;  Brett Larick, Vice President of Sales, Columbia Chemical; and Sergio de Camargo Andrade Filho, Director, Metal Coat.

October 26, 2009, BRUNSWICK, OH – Directors from Metal Coat Produtos Quimicos, Ltda., the exclusive representative of Columbia Chemical products in Brazil, recently visited the company’s world headquarters.  After a plant tour and review of the entire Columbia product line, Sergio de Camargo Andrade Filho and Cassio Jose Pinto discussed the needs of Brazil’s zinc plating market and shared the successful results of field tests using Columbia’s soon-to-be-released technology for black trivalent passivation on zinc nickel deposits.

The Metal Coat executives also had the opportunity to visit Lustrous Metal Coatings to see the application of Columbia Chemical’s DuraLIFE technology.  Tom Vonortas, Executive Vice President for Lustrous Metal Coatings, provided a tour of the Canton, OH facility.

Jeff Grodecki, Technical Support Manager for Columbia Chemical, was also present on the tour and comments, “This was a fantastic opportunity for Metal Coat to see the DuraLIFE technology at work in a trivalent chromate solution.  Lustrous Metal Coatings processes a high volume of headrest brackets for the automotive industry.  These headrests are fabricated from steel tubing and have significant surface area that will remain “unplated”, which can allow for iron contamination to build at an accelerated rate.  Sergio and Cassio were able to discuss with Tom how the performance of the DuraLIFE technology greatly reduced the overall cost associated with processing tubes by reducing the buildup of iron and therefore greatly extending the life of a high performance trivalent chromate solution.”

NEW ISO 9001:2000 AND ISO 9227 CERTIFICATIONS
AWARDED TO COLUMBIA CHEMICAL

BRUNSWICK, OHIO, January 25, 2007 - Columbia Chemical is pleased to announce that it was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by Orion Registrar on January 25, 2007.   ISO 9001:2001 certification means that Columbia has successfully implemented an internationally recognized quality management system in the design and manufacture of proprietary additives for the metal finishing industry worldwide.  By meeting this standard, Columbia Chemical has once again established the position as an industry leader.  The Certificate of Registration is valid until January 24, 2010.

“We pursued renewal certification to the latest version of ISO 9001 because it places greater emphasis on achieving measurable objectives, meeting customer requirements, enhancing customer satisfaction and continual improvement of our system,” said Plant Manager Pete Grasson, who led the initiative.
Columbia Chemical also achieved ISO 9227 registration, which qualifies us to perform salt spray corrosion testing for the automotive industry and provide them documented results needed to gain approvals.  The ISO 9227 standard specifies the apparatus, the reagents and the procedure to be used in conducting neutral salt spray tests for assessment of the corrosion resistance of metallic materials, with or without permanent or temporary corrosion protection.

COLUMBIA CHEMICAL RECOLORS THE WORLD OF TRIVALENT CHROMATES WITH NEW SpectraMATETM , A UNIQUELY COLORED, THICK-FILM TRIVALENT CHROMATE THAT EXCEEDS 250 HOURS OF CORROSION PROTECTION WITHOUT A SEALER

BRUNSWICK, OHIO, July 12, 2006 - Columbia Chemical introduces SpectraMATETM, a single-component, high-performance, thick-film trivalent conversion coating for zinc that consistently exceeds 250 hours of neutral salt spray to white corrosion without top coats or sealers.  Patent-pending SpectraMATETM produces a slightly iridescent, multi-color finish (subtle hues of pink, green, purple and yellow) with self-healing properties, which is unique among high-corrosion trivalent chromate processes.

SpectraMATETM operates at low-to-ambient temperatures, with a wide operating window, thus eliminating the added cost and inconvenience of heating associated with conventional thick-film trivalent technologies.   SpectraMATE’s revolutionary technology eliminates the need for high concentrations, chelators, topcoats, sealers, and inconsistent results.
