October 26, 2009, BRUNSWICK, OH – Directors from Metal Coat Produtos Quimicos, Ltda., the exclusive representative of Columbia Chemical products in Brazil, recently visited the company’s world headquarters. After a plant tour and review of the entire Columbia product line, Sergio de Camargo Andrade Filho and Cassio Jose Pinto discussed the needs of Brazil’s zinc plating market and shared the successful results of field tests using Columbia’s soon-to-be-released technology for black trivalent passivation on zinc nickel deposits.
The Metal Coat executives also had the opportunity to visit Lustrous Metal Coatings to see the application of Columbia Chemical’s DuraLIFE technology. Tom Vonortas, Executive Vice President for Lustrous Metal Coatings, provided a tour of the Canton, OH facility.
Jeff Grodecki, Technical Support Manager for Columbia Chemical, was also present on the tour and comments, “This was a fantastic opportunity for Metal Coat to see the DuraLIFE technology at work in a trivalent chromate solution. Lustrous Metal Coatings processes a high volume of headrest brackets for the automotive industry. These headrests are fabricated from steel tubing and have significant surface area that will remain “unplated”, which can allow for iron contamination to build at an accelerated rate. Sergio and Cassio were able to discuss with Tom how the performance of the DuraLIFE technology greatly reduced the overall cost associated with processing tubes by reducing the buildup of iron and therefore greatly extending the life of a high performance trivalent chromate solution.”

BOEING GRANTS COLUMBIA CHEMICAL
APPROVAL AS SUPPLIER OF CADMIUM BRIGHTENER PROCESS
March 04, 2009, Brunswick, OH –Columbia Chemical Corp. has been granted approval by the Boeing Company as a supplier of cadmium brightener for applications on all models of their commercial airplanes. Columbia Chemical’s COLCAD 100 brightener for cadmium plating is designed to produce brilliant, uniform deposits in both rack and barrel plating applications while providing long operating life with low cost bath operations.
Tom Alderson, Sales Manager Americas, worked closely with Boeing representatives to gain the approval. Because the former products are no longer commercially available, Columbia Chemical’s COLCAD 100 is now the only Boeing approved cadmium brightener available for these applications. The approval also allows platers to add COLCAD 100 to existing baths containing former Boeing approved cadmium brightener.”

By meeting this standard, Columbia Chemical has once again established the position as an industry leader. The Certificate of Registration is valid until January 24, 2010.
“We pursued renewal certification to the latest version of ISO 9001 because it places greater emphasis on achieving measurable objectives, meeting customer requirements, enhancing customer satisfaction and continual improvement of our system,” said Plant Manager Pete Grasson, who led the initiative.
Columbia Chemical also achieved ISO 9227 registration, which qualifies us to perform salt spray corrosion testing for the automotive industry and provide them documented results needed to gain approvals. The ISO 9227 standard specifies the apparatus, the reagents and the procedure to be used in conducting neutral salt spray tests for assessment of the corrosion resistance of metallic materials, with or without permanent or temporary corrosion protection.

COLUMBIA CHEMICAL RECOLORS THE WORLD OF TRIVALENT CHROMATES WITH NEW SpectraMATETM , A UNIQUELY COLORED, THICK-FILM TRIVALENT CHROMATE THAT EXCEEDS 250 HOURS OF CORROSION PROTECTION WITHOUT A SEALER
BRUNSWICK, OHIO, July 12, 2006 - Columbia Chemical introduces SpectraMATETM, a single-component, high-performance, thick-film trivalent conversion coating for zinc that consistently exceeds 250 hours of neutral salt spray to white corrosion without top coats or sealers. Patent-pending SpectraMATETM produces a slightly iridescent, multi-color finish (subtle hues of pink, green, purple and yellow) with self-healing properties, which is unique among high-corrosion trivalent chromate processes.
SpectraMATETM operates at low-to-ambient temperatures, with a wide operating window, thus eliminating the added cost and inconvenience of heating associated with conventional thick-film trivalent technologies. SpectraMATE’s revolutionary technology eliminates the need for high concentrations, chelators, topcoats, sealers, and inconsistent results.
