Columbia Chemical participates in National Surface Finishing Day

March 6, 2019

In celebration of this year’s National Surface Finishing Day on March 6, a group of Columbia Chemical employees were recently given the opportunity to visit Lustrous Metal Coating, Inc. in Canton to see firsthand how a plating shop operates. Lustrous Metal Coatings, Inc. is known as a dominant force in the metal finishing industry. Columbia Chemical and Lustrous have worked together for years and Lustrous VP Tom Vonortas personally led the employees on the tour, providing information and answering questions. This provided Columbia Chemical employees a chance to see firsthand the physical plating process and to better understand how their work translates to the customer and beyond that to end users.

“Surface finishing is such an important technology in the manufacturing process,” said Columbia Chemical President Brett Larick. “Almost any piece of equipment manufactured — be it an airplane, an automobile or a mobile phone — has the science and technology of a surface coating behind it that gives it the value and protection to make the product last longer and look better.”

National Surface Finishing Day is an annual national event celebrated at the local level and supported by thousands of surface finishers and coaters as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern surface finishers technology and careers.

Columbia Chemical is also committed to helping raise awareness for surface finishing throughout the year by working with local manufacturing advocacy and awareness group Made in Medina County to host tours on manufacturing awareness day for area citizens, business owners and students as well as participating in the biannual Manufacturing Expo that draws 1500+ (which includes hundreds of students from local school districts). They also host tours for local chambers to promote awareness of the surface finishing industry.
